Cygnet Texkimp and Bowman Power advance capability of high-tension rotor overwrapping solution for mass land transport

Cygnet Texkimp and Bowman Power are collaborating to advance capability in high-tension carbon overwrapping of rotors used in electric powertrains for land transport applications.

The collaboration combines Cygnet Texkimp’s filament winding expertise and dedicated high-tension overwrapping solution with Bowman Power’s capabilities in developing advanced electrified turbomachinery for industries including rail, on and off-highway, and power generation.

The original solution was developed by Cygnet Texkimp to wind carbon fibre at high tension around the motor, adding an extra level of considerable strength and substantially increasing its capacity for rotational speed and endurance without adding significant weight, resulting in more power from lighter motors.

Bowman Power has acquired the winding technology and is working with Cygnet Texkimp to develop a dedicated solution to support customers across the transportation market. Together, they are developing the solution to increase accuracy and repeatability at rate and to optimise production of e-motors to meet the future needs of the market.
