An innovative technology that uses superheated steam to reclaim composite fibres from wound parts and offers the potential for them to be reused in the manufacture of new parts has been shortlisted in the Unsurpassed Innovation category of the CAMX Awards.
The DEECOM® solution is being developed and commercialised by composites technology specialist and machine builder Cygnet Texkimp [Cheshire, UK] alongside industry partner and technology inventor, Longworth [Blackburn, Lancashire, UK]. The award entry focused on Cygnet Texkimp and Longworth’s successful project with the UK’s National Composites Centre to achieve a world-first in reclaiming continuous fibre lengths from wound products – in this case from composite hydrogen tanks.
The CAMX Awards celebrate outstanding achievement and innovation that have the potential to truly change the composites and advanced materials industry. Winners of the awards will be announced at this year’s CAMX (The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo) show which takes place in Anaheim, CA, 17-20 October 2022.
“Sustainability, decarbonisation, waste reduction and supply are hugely important issues in composites and it’s a great honour to have our work in this field recognised in these coveted industry awards,” says Cygnet Texkimp CEO Luke Vardy.
“The DEECOM® solution is highly significant in the composites sector where it has the potential to transform end-of-life outcomes and give composite fibres multiple lifecycles, therefore helping to overcome to challenges of waste and supply chain issues and create a more consistent supply of carbon fibre.
“The relevance of this technology spans the entire global composites market with applications ranging from marine to wind turbines, automotive, aerospace, rail and construction.”
Tim Young, Head of Sustainability at the National Composites Centre added “We’re really delighted to see that this technology has been shortlisted for this award. It’s an excellent case study of the world leading technologies and innovations coming out of the UK that may significantly impact the composites industry and how we create products of the future.”
Cygnet Texkimp will be exhibiting at CAMX Booth P65 and in the Awards Pavilion, Anaheim Convention Centre, CA, 17-20 October 2022. For more information, visit www.thecamx.org
